Blog 22: Senior Project Reflection

 (1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your Block Presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
I am proud of making time because I did not have faith in myself that I was going to make it to 30 minutes of speaking time and I actually did make it. I looked at this presentation as a challenge that I had to beat and I felt accomplished at the end of my block presentation because when I first started my freshman year I was not able to present or even stand in front of people, so being able to present for 30 minutes and by myself was a personal growth that I had been waiting to occur for a long time. I am also very proud of the research I did during my senior project because it was complimented by Mr. Pang, and everything I learned through my research was able to help me  when I was explaining my answers.

(2) Questions to Consider

a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your Block Presentation (self-assessment)?

AE               AP       CR       NC

b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)?

AE                AP       CR       NC

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
I was able to find a mentor that was willing to help me throughout my project and teach me about different things she does to help children with Autism communicate. When doing my second independent component, professor Laubie was more than happy to let me observe her college course and it really helped me because I was able to master how special education works.
(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would have you done differently to improve your senior project if you could go back in time?
I think that if I could go back in time I would want to change my first independent component to doing something on National Autism Awareness Day to promote awareness throughout the school. I think it would have fit in with my answer of integrating a family centered therapy, more than doing more mentorship hours.
(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.
During the course of this project, we had a lot of research checks that we had to do and I think that learning how to find research, not only in google but through the Cal poly database and through books, has helped me learn what is going to be expected of me once I start college in the Fall. Through experience taking college classes I have noticed that most college students do not know how to present in front of a class and I really feel that this presentation has giving me a lift when talking in front of people. This project also showed me to network with people and it could be related to the real world because that is the way people get jobs, the more people you know they more opportunities you  will have. I had to find my mentor through talking to different people. This senior project really is the most valuable project I will take from I-poly! Thank You Senior Team!!

  1. Aw, Diana! I am so happy that you felt that this was useful for you. I am proud you made time, too. Not because I thought you couldn't; You have proven that you are a dedicated student, so I knew you would. It's because I see that you are an introvert, so I know that doing something like this is challenging for you. Good job, Diana. I am so proud of you.
